This article is about customizations that can be done on vehicles. For the Customization Garages themselves, see Customization Garages.
Vehicle customization is one of the most commonly used features in Jailbreak. It is both practical and cosmetic, mainly used to add performance or cosmetic upgrades to cars and/or distinguish a player's car from others.
Overview
There are a total of twenty-two vehicle customization options: Texture, Secondary Texture, Body Color, Secondary Body Color, Engine, Glow, Horn, Rim, Rim Color, Drift, Tire Sticker, Tire Style Suspension Height, Brake, Window Color, Window Tint, Interior Main, Interior Detail, Seat Color, Spoiler, Spoiler Color, and Headlight Color.
Vehicles such as the UFO, Helicopter, Black Hawk, Blade, Crew Capsule, and Little Bird can only equip textures, body colors, and window colors. The same applies to the Volt, Jet Ski, Jet, and Stunt. (with the exception of the window color)
Some vehicles, like the Celestial, Trailblazer, Raptor, JB8, Eclaire, M12 Molten, Celsior, Beignet, Beam Hybrid, Javelin, and Tank have access to the Secondary Body Color customization. Within them, only a chosen few have access to the Secondary Texture customization as well.
Land vehicles like the Pickup, Javelin, Shell Mark-5, Desert Crawler, Monster Truck and all bike vehicles, etc. do not have customizable spoilers. They either have no spot for one, or already have a spoiler attached to the vehicle.
Players can customize their vehicles in any Garage from the Rising City Garage, Mountainside Town Garage 2, Crater City Garage and the Military Base garage. Owners of the Premium Garage gamepass can customize their vehicle anywhere they want. Water vehicles could only be customized by the dock at the Crime Port before its removal.
Vehicle Customization Options
Special
HyperChromes
HyperChromes are special customization colors in Jailbreak. They can only be obtained via the Robbery Bonus Rewards system. [1]
Unlike normal customization colors in terms of appearance, HyperChromes are shiny and reflective. They appear in a variety of different colors (Red, Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow, Purple, Pink and Diamond), similar to normal customization color options.
After completing a robbery, players get a roll with a small chance of obtaining a HyperChrome. They start with a Level 1 HyperChrome after their first successful roll, which will level up to a maximum of Level 5 as they receive more HyperChromes.
Like other customization options, HyperChromes can be traded at the Trading Island at any level. [2]
HyperShift
The HyperShift is a special customization color in Jailbreak that can only be obtained via owning every Level 5 HyperChrome.[2]
The HyperShift appears similarly to the HyperChromes; the only difference is that the HyperShift automatically shifts through different colors. Badimo described it as an "animated color".[2]
The HyperShift is non-tradable.[2] If players lose any of their Level 5 HyperChromes, they also lose their HyperShift.[2]
The only way to "trade" the HyperShift is to trade all 8 of the Level 5 HyperChromes.
Others
Notes:
- Red text above an item means players cannot currently obtain that item without trading for it at the Trading Island.
- Black text above an item means the item cannot be traded and thus is completely unobtainable.
- Yellow text above an item means that item is going to retire soon, and you may want to get it before time runs out.
- The items below are ordered by their obtainability and by how and when they were/are obtained.
Textures, also known as "skins" are detailed wraps that cover most of the vehicle, including any body colors equipped. They are purely cosmetic, and do not change a vehicle's performance whatsoever.
Seven vehicles have a default texture which cannot be used on any other vehicles. These are the NASCAR, NASCAR Free, NASCAR 75, MCL36, Semi (Primary and Secondary Texture), Shogun and the Striker.
The Berlin Graffiti texture which was the level 8 prize from Season 17: Exploring Europe comes in different colour variations depending on what vehicle is being used. The variations are red, orange, yellow, lime, green, cyan, blue, pink and purple. The Semi has the most of these only missing a few shades of blue due to its length.

Original decals
When Jailbreak was first released to the public, there were no textures, but rather decals for vehicles. These are the oldest "textures", which have all been removed after the Customization Update on July 5th, 2017 (except for Checkers and Rainbow, which got revamped). Below are images of all the decals equipped on the Camaro.

Rims are the inner-core of tires, that can only be customized on cars. They once again have no performance change and are purely cosmetic.

Window Tint is the second-newest vehicle customization to Jailbreak. It affects the transparency of the windows of vehicles, only with interior. There are four levels of tint, listed from clearest, to darkest.
Having darker window tint may affect the player's ability to use interior driving, and changing the window colour may make the tint appear differently.

As Engine levels are increased, the vehicle's top speed will be faster. There are currently five different levels, and player's will be equipped with the Level 1 Engine by default. It is recommended to skip all levels and go straight to the maximum level. The reason for this is because of the significant pricing, but almost unnoticeable vehicle performance changes.

Unlike all other vehicle customization options, the license plate editor is no longer found in the Garage. After the 2021 Winter Update, the editor is featured within the speedometer.
When editing it, note that the font will always be sans-serif, fully capitalized and is restricted to a limit of seven characters. Only characters present in the Latin alphabet (without accents) can be used on the license plate despite some with accents being on some default license plates. Some plates however, may appear as blank, or be composed of hashtags due to the Roblox Moderation and Filter system.
- All aerial vehicles other than the Lia and Blade do not have License Plates.
- All Watercraft (Sloop, Jet Ski, Cruiser) do not have License Plates.)
- All Bikes except for Volt have License Plates. However it is the default ABC DEF License Plate.
- The Falcon S is an exception to this as it's plate reads GUEST
Most vehicles have custom license plate registrations usually unique to the vehicle. All the bikes and roadster have the old default "ABC DEF registrations while some cars such as the Stallion and JB8 share registrations. ("Vro oom"). Some cars license plates display the name of the vehicle, these include the NASCAR and MCL36. Most community created vehicles will show who they are created by.
If you change the license plate then make it blank the default will be "BADIMO" Vehicle's custom license plates include:

Tips
- Players should buy the performance upgrades first and the appearance later.
- By doing so, their vehicles will perform better, giving players more experience and confidence in the game. It is recommended to upgrade the suspensions and engines first.
- On the contrary, textures only change the appearance of the vehicle, while spoilers and tires do not improve much handling and off-roading/grip respectively.
Trivia
HyperChromes & HyperShift
- HyperChromes were single-handedly implemented by CritStyx.[3]
Seasonal Customizations
- Previously, some season-exclusive customizations could be purchased despite their assigned seasons as of the Nukes Update. Non-owners must have met the correct level requirements and joined the season that had the textures and rewards in it.
- Those items were available from the original Season 2 to Season 4.
- As of the MEMES! Update, they are now unobtainable and locked from purchase.
- Those items were available from the original Season 2 to Season 4.
- asimo3089 once considered bringing back all of the seasonal customizations.
- However, with the addition of trading, it is unlikely that this will happen.
Customization Colors
- The "Pastel Brown" color was once named "Pasten Brown".
- This was a typo and was later fixed in a miscellaneous update.
- The "Darkest Purple" color was once named "Color_DarkestPurple" due to a translation error.
- This was later fixed in a future update.
- The "Matte" color used to be called "Black," while "Black" used to be called "Blacker".
- When equipping a change of body color to the Stunt or the Jet, it only changes the aileron color.
- This was changed in the Season 12 Update.
- When equipping "Black" as a headlight or glow color, no light is produced.
- In the August 2020 Update, the "Radiant Yellow" glow color was removed.
- It was added back in the Season 6 Fall Update.
Customization Textures
- Many non-limited current textures in Jailbreak were added in the Customization Update to replace the removed decals, though some were added in later updates.
- The Money, Field, Ladybug, Peach, ClassicVar3, and the ClassicVar1 textures were retired in the July Update.
- They are also the first vehicle customizations to be retired.
- The Checker texture is the only textures that requires Robux access.
- Since items unlocked at Levels 3, 5, 7 and 9 are season pass exclusive, any textures unlocked at these levels also require Robux.
- Currently this only applies to the Snowstorm and Earthquake textures.
- Since items unlocked at Levels 3, 5, 7 and 9 are season pass exclusive, any textures unlocked at these levels also require Robux.
- The "Lava" texture was once named "GARAGETEXTURE.LAVA" due to a translation error.
- Many of the original textures used in the game were made in Microsoft Paint.
- The first iteration of the garage didn't have an UI (User Inter-Face) You had to click squares on the wall.
- Prior to the Nukes Update, the Peach texture was also purchasable via the Starter Pack before the latter's removal.
- For unknown reasons, the Steed show textures upside down.
- The Stallion used to share this trait before its remodel.
- In the Power Plant Revamp Update, the developers accidentally removed the "None" texture.
- This was reverted the day after the update.
- A few cars have different "Racer" texture variations, such as the Cybertruck.
- There is a different "Donut" texture on the now-retired SUV.
- Some textures on some vehicles appear as a light gray due to those textures being moderated by Roblox on certain vehicles.
- The "Berlin Graffiti" texture is the only texture to have different colour schemes on different vehicles.
- The way this is done is by using different parts of a texture too long to fully fit on most vehicles.
- As such, the Semi is the vehicle to display the most colours schemes for this texture, due to its length allowing it to use most of the texture.
- The way this is done is by using different parts of a texture too long to fully fit on most vehicles.
Broken Textures
Vehicle | Broken Texture(s) |
---|---|
Arachnid | Aquatic |
ATV | Diamond |
Celsior | Earth, Volcano |
Challenger | Blue Pixel |
Goliath, Black Hawk | Crimson Racer |
Volt | Diamond, Frost, Racer, Superstar, White Marble |
Customization Rims
- The "Fidget Spinner" rim was the first limited customization reward.
- There are two different "Star" rims.
- The "Star" rim can be obtained by getting all the required badges in the game.
- While the "Star Badge" rim could have been obtained by reaching Level 10 on the Police team in Season 1, it is no longer available.
Customization Spoilers
- The Largest 2 spoilers in the game are the "Blue Parachute" and the "Red Parachute".
- There are three "Rocket" spoilers in-game, including:
- The "Rocket" spoiler added in the Fall 2018 Update.
- The "Dual Rocket" spoiler added in the Season 4 Update.
- The "Thrusters" spoiler added as the Level 9 season pass-exclusive reward in Season 2: Out of This World.
Horns
- The hidden "Injan" horn is exclusive to Injanity, a player who helped with art direction in the early days of Jailbreak.
- Even though it is free, the "Original" horn sound had a limited tag in the Garage.
- This has been fixed in an update.
License Plates
- Previously, the default license plate of all vehicles would say “ABCDEF".
- However, it still remains to be the most common default license plate among the vehicles.
- After the Spoiler/Wings Customization Update, a default license plate would say “BADIMO”.
- However, after the Garage V1 Update, it was changed back to say “ABCDEF”.
- If in the license plate option you write nothing. it will automatically be Badimo. Also most vehicles have their own default license plates.
- The license plate of the M12 Molten, "BY: SKYLINE", used to be the longest possible license plate that could be used. It was the longest default license plate and a plate with this many characters cannot be used with a custom plate.
- The Ray 9's license plate, "BYã ¤TRUMINATOR", now takes the title of being the longest license plate.
Removed Decals
- The old decals were removed in the Customization Update as they were not good-looking and had poor quality.
- However, the Checker and Rainbow decals received an improved look, like the other textures.
- The Checker texture used to have a flag-like look, while the Rainbow texture was vertical instead of horizontal.
- However, the Checker and Rainbow decals received an improved look, like the other textures.
- The Checker texture was later locked from being purchased due to the game, which players were required to join to obtain the texture, being closed by asimo3089, which made this texture unobtainable.
- One of the now-removed decals, named "Woodgrain", was made for a person named WoodReviewer, who was known for making memes and jokes about asimo3089.
Other
- Some vehicle customization names are similar to some vehicle names, such as the Volt, Blade, Arachnid, Bloxy, Shell Mark 5, Jet and the Parisian.
- This includes the Volt wing, Blade rims, Arachnid rims, Bloxy rims, Mark 5 rims and the EXP-1 rims.
- Most of the textures and body colors were made by Maplestick, whose credit was shown in the team selection screen prior to the Nukes Update's UI revamp.
- Players can equip unowned customizations for testing in the garage, but the moment they close the garage GUI, it will remove the customization.
- There are a little over 400 customizations (including seasonal items, secondary body colors, engines, brakes, suspensions heights, license plates, interior, and seat colors, etc).
- There are a total of 16 old customizations.
- There are 10 customizations for Youtubers who mainly create Jailbreak-related content videos; KreekCraft (Tiger Texture and KreekCraft Tires), MyUsernamesThis (Bacon Texture and MyUsernamesThis Tires), NapkinNate (Glowing Yellow and NapkinNate Tires), Chrisandthemike + Ashleyosity (Galaxy Wave Texture and Crash Nation Tires), DatBrian (DatBrian Tires), and Phindr (Phindr Tires).
- The Armor Texture and 3 Billion Tires are the only vehicle customization items that used to be obtainable by redeeming codes.
- Prior to the Customization Update, everything except for textures and rims was 50.
- The only vehicles in the game that can't be modified are the Sloop and the Cruiser, though there was a glitch where the Cruiser could equip HyperChromes at one point.
- There used to be a checkout GUI where players would confirm the customizations they selected and buy them at once.
- As of the Nukes Update, the Garage GUI and the Weapon Skins Customization GUI were again overhauled apart from the License Plate GUI.
- There were 2.5 phases of vehicle customization GUI.
- The first is 2D colors, skins, engine, suspension, etc pictures.
- Phase 2 is 3D cars for example when trying an appearance, while also containing 3D engines, brakes, and suspensions.
- Phase 2.5 being 3D cars no longer brought up when equipping a color which was replaced by spheres.
