The Cheater Island is a minor location in Jailbreak. It was added in an update shortly after the 2018 Winter Update. Located in the middle of the River near the Rising City, it was well-known for being a former way of punishing detected exploiters.

Overview

The Cheater Island consists of a cage hung onto a large palm tree on a grassy island. Under the cage are some text which says "PROPERTY OF BADCC, DO NOT FEED ANY CAGE DWELLERS", revealing that badcc was the one who added the Cheater Island.

Previously, there was a wooden sign next to the tree, saying, "In this cage will appear cheaters. Don't be a cheater." The sign was removed in an unknown update. The island used to be sandy before Roblox grass was added to the game in a later update.

Purpose

Previous

The Cheater Island was originally implemented to deal with the increase of exploiting and hacking cases in Jailbreak, mainly due to the game's high popularity and being where exploiters can gain the most progress.

If an exploiter was detected by the game's anti-cheat script or manually banned by the game's developers, they would be teleported into the cage and locked in there permanently. Some exploits could remove the loop teleport and teleport the exploiter out, though they could not be able to play the game, but only walk around. If they tried joining another server, they would spawn inside the cage.

Since the anti-cheat script could not detect all exploiters automatically, Badimo had created a Jailbreak Exploiter form in the hope of getting help from the community to quickly report exploiters instead of using Roblox's report abuse option. However, the form was closed due to the addition of display names in Roblox,[1] which made it harder to ban people via video proof.

After the cage system was discontinued, when players were banned from the game, if they attempt to join a Jailbreak server, a pop-up would appear reading, "You were kicked from this game. You are banned." Banned players could not play Jailbreak at all.

Current

Responding to a tweet, asimo3089 said that Jailbreak no longer used the cage system to punish hackers and exploiters. Instead, if an account was caught using exploits in Jailbreak, they would simply receive a "disconnected" message saying they were banned from the game, rather than being teleported to the cage.

On the March 2022 Update, upon attempting to join Jailbreak, banned players will be redirected to a separate experience named Jailbreak Ban Jail where they have the option to pay GoldenRobux1,500 to play the game again, but with limitations.

The Cheater Island, however, still remains to be emblematic of Jailbreak's anti-cheat system[2] and as a warning to exploiters. It is also an inspiration for the design of the Jailbreak Ban Jail.

Cage Glitch

Players can glitch inside the cage by having another player use any kind of Helicopter, use the rope, and aim it inside the cage. When the rope is already inside, tap or press E to get inside. Players who glitch in the cage are not banned and can still play the game normally.

Trivia

  • The Cheater Island is the smallest island in Jailbreak.
  • Prior to the addition of the Jailbreak Ban Jail, if a player was banned, a "disconnected" message would appear, which said "You were kicked from this game. You are banned."
  • When the Cheater Island was used, it shared the same cheat-detecting system as the former kicking system, although some exploiters could automatically be caged. While players may still get kicked, they would still be sent to the cage.
  • Players could not click on any GUI when caged for cheating.
  • The first known person to be put into the cage was a player and YouTuber named MathFacter360. He was caged after being mistaken for teleporting around the map to arrest criminals. This was false, as he was live streaming and asking people to help him farm arrests so he could get to Level 50 on the Police team to buy the Arachnid.
    • The ban was soon reverted.[3]
  • In December 2019, the exploit detection system was detecting false positives, leading to some innocent players getting caged.
    • This was quickly fixed after a few hours.
  • In the Sword Update, the Sword's spawn was added to the island.
