The Criminal team is made up of escaped Prisoners who intend on planning Robberies and Heists to gain money so that they can purchase vehicles, vehicle customizations, weapons, explore the map and all its locations, or even rent homes and penthouses, all while avoiding being arrested.

Overview

When a player successfully escapes the Prison as a Prisoner, they are automatically moved to the Criminal team. Players are encouraged to avoid resetting as it will teleport them back to the Prison and put them back onto the prisoner team, as if they had been arrested. If you reset nearby Police will collect your bounty, as long as they are close enough. When a player is a criminal now that they are out of the Prison, they are capable of living a somewhat free life while avoiding the Police.

Criminals have Criminal Bases, where players can pick up weapons. Criminals can also take off their Prison Jumpsuit or grab a vehicle. Criminals have access to a Pistol, and Shotgun in both criminal bases. If they own the BOSS Gamepass, they can get the Rifle, Celestial and the BOSS attire. Both criminal bases feature a Camaro and Celestial spawn each while the Volcano Criminal Base has a La Matador spawn and the Rising City Criminal Base has a Falcon S spawn.

Bounty

Main article: Bounty

When criminals start robbing various places such as the Donut Shop and stealing artifacts from the Museum, they'll gain a bounty. Killing Police Officers will just keep adding on to it. But with a high bounty, comes a higher paycheck. Police officers can receive their bounty by arresting the criminal. Police can also receive Criminal bounties if the criminal resets or leaves the game after the police officer shot them, tased them, or ejected them recently.

Be warned, players can see the top Bounty at the Top Criminals Board. There are two of these boards in the game. One in the Prison near the cafeteria and the other in Rising City Police Station. There used to be a third board previously located in the Police HQ before it's removal. The bounty GUI will only show when the player is a criminal. The player can still obtain bounty as a prisoner by killing police, but they cannot view it.

Therefore, the higher the bounty, the more likely the criminal will be hunted by the Police.

Bounty Values

The value of bounty criminals receive is 30% of any money they rob. For the complete list check the aforementioned page.

Tips

  • Use third person view for better situational awareness: This way, you can detect threats coming at you from a greater distance and have more time to fight back.
  • Use first-person view for shooting: First-person view reduces camera recoil while shooting, and should allow you to aim more precisely. However, this is a mere suggestion and you should decide for yourself which view suits you more.
  • Use your environment to escape police: When running, you travel the same speed as the Police. Climb up mountains and go in circles around buildings. This will eventually confuse police and, though it takes a while to get away from them, it’s effective as it will bore the Police and they will leave.
  • Be unpredictable in chases: Jump around rigorously and zigzag when an officer is nearby and is about to arrest you. Change your direction unpredictably and jump around the Police officer. This is not guaranteed to work, but it does give you a chance. If you have a weapon, don't hesitate to use it to take out police.
  • Use team chat: By typing '/t' or '/team' and pressing enter before your message, it makes sure that only your team will be able to read the message you sent. This is extremely useful to convey information which you will not want the Police to hear, such as plans to raid the prison, tell what robberies you are headed towards, or to tell someone in the Museum to pull the lever.
    • When using team chat, remember that Prisoner is technically still a separate team from Criminal. This means messages will not reach someone who was recently arrested, or is on the Prisoner team for another reason. If you want to privately talk to a Prisoner as a Criminal, try Private Messaging them instead using /w or /whisper (username).
  • Get a keycard: Only worry about getting a keycard if it's going to be uncomplicated. Sometimes there are too many other prisoners around, and you will never even get behind the police (though in some circumstances it can be used to your advantage). If you do manage to get it and are being chased, escape either through the Prison Police Station, or through the back door of the Cafeteria, as it's less likely that Police are going to be hanging around in there. If you rob the Cargo Plane, there is a 1/7 chance of getting a keycard from the crates during the robbery. Sometimes if there are no police in the prison, it is better to leave jail, get guns, and find cops and kill them. Cops have a 50% chance of dropping a keycard on death.
  • Avoid situations that place you in danger whenever you can: In simpler terms, unless you're confident in your ability to eliminate police and conveniently escape, do not start wildly shooting at them, because there is a chance an officer may arrest you from behind. Leave them and come back when you have a friend or two.
  • Look at the minimap: The minimap is a handy tool that lets you spot nearby police so that you can avoid/attack them.
  • Don't rob the Bank in cop-dominated servers: It is not recommended to rob the Rising City Bank/Crater City Bank if there are many police in the server, as they will likely be attracted to the Bank and bust players.
  • Go to Crater City for guns in cop-dominated servers: Similar to the above, there will be a higher chance for cops to be camping at the Mountainside Town and Rising City Gun Stores. Not many people know about or go to the Crater City Gun Shop, so go there. The same goes for garages, but it is less likely to occur.
  • Get the Jetpack: from the Crater City Bank. With it, you can do things like fly up to high places that police can't reach, or you can fly through some hard obbies while robbing.
  • Hide in a Garage: When there is a police officer chasing you and you have no weapons to fight or vehicles to get away with, it is recommended to lock yourself in a garage, as all the police can do is simply camp outside. After a while, they should give up and just go away. Be wary of road spikes that they may put outside your garage if you want to spawn a car inside, and check your minimap before you exit the garage.(

Trivia

  • Prior to the Nukes Update, when players became a criminal, they would receive this message: "You escaped! You are now a criminal. Run, hide, rob Banks, check out the City, find other criminals. Don't get caught!".
    • As of the Nukes Update, the message has been shortened to only "You escaped!".
  • If a player owns the BOSS Gamepass, they will automatically be changed into their regular look, without going to a criminal base. However, there is a bug where sometimes this does not work, and the player will stay in their prison jumpsuit. This is typically due to lag.
  • The maximum number of players in the criminal/prisoner team is 16. If a player attempts to join the prisoner team while the team is full, the game will say, "Team is full...".
    • This can be bypassed by choosing Police and arresting/shooting 3 innocent Prisoners. This will force them to switch to Prisoner.
  • This is the only team that is not accessible by choosing teams, instead, players escape from prison as a prisoner in order to be a criminal.
  • As of an unknown update, police cannot kill arrested criminals after a certain amount of time (except for punching).
    • Doing so will tell the police officer that they are innocent. This was probably added to prevent police from preventing breakouts by killing them before another criminal can break them out, and it was confirmed by asimo3089 on Twitter that it is not a bug. This has received extreme criticism from many players. However, if you get arrested in a restricted area in the Prison, such as the Sewers, the police officer will not be notified when they kill you.
  • A criminal cannot equip SWAT Attire in both Police Stations even if they have the SWAT Gamepass because they are not police officers.
    • This is the same with police officers not being able to equip BOSS attire.
