The Mountainside Town is a residential area in Jailbreak, somewhat far from the Rising City, and can be seen if players take the tunnel left of the Prison and drive to the end, or drive across the desert from the City.

The Mountainside Town includes the Donut Shop, Mountainside Town Garage 2, Mountainside Town Gun Shop, Glider Store and the Pet Shop on either the left or right side, with the Volcano Criminal Base being in close proximity. It contains a residential area that contains a rentable house. Rocket Fuel can be bought at the Mountainside Town Gas Station for players without the Premium Garage Gamepass. The Surus and Challenger now spawn here, the former in the residential area, near the Modern Town Home, and the latter in front of the Mountainside Town Gun Shop.
While the Town does not have any intended use in terms of game mechanics, it is a vast space with lots of buildings for cover, being possibly one of the best spaces to hide, and the most tedious to patrol.
During the Ready Player One Event, players had to hit the orange-topped house with a car from the part facing the Meteor to get the chicken cut-scene and continue to participate in the event. It brought lots of attention to the Town and made more players interact with it.
In the Town Revamp Update, the Town was completely revamped. This was due to the eruption of the volcano at the Volcano Criminal Base on September 29, 2020. It featured many new buildings, new houses (some of which have detailed interiors and can be entered), new road layouts, fences, and a heavy modernization of the area. A store-like building was added in this revamp, and some have speculated that it may be a future robbery or heist.
In the April 2021 Update, players could rent some of the houses in the Town once per server, along with a crew. This was added alongside the Apartments revamp.
On Feburary 27th, 2023, a tweet on asimo3089's Twitter page asked players to name the Town. [1] Two rounds of poll were run before the final poll that decided on the official name of the Town. [2] On March 2nd, 2023, the name Mountainside won with the most votes and was named as a replacement of the Town as part of the Crew Battles update. [3]

Players can also practice their aiming by shooting in the shooting range behind a door inside the Gun Shop. A location on the map for decoration, the Water Tower is located on a lower hill near the Town, above a tunnel that appears to be a mineshaft. Its appearance has changed countless times throughout Jailbreak's history. |
| Located next to the Water Tower, the Volcano Criminal Base is a spawn for Criminals and is a place where Criminals go to after escaping Prison. This is where Criminals turn in their Museum, Power Plant, Passenger Train, Casino and occasionally their Jewelry Store money as well. | |

- There are 22 houses in the Town, all of which have different colors and designs.
- The houses originally had interiors when Jailbreak was first released, it was removed in an unknown update, but the interiors came back in the Town revamp.
- In the April 2021 Update, the houses with interiors were revamped, and can now be rented with a crew per server.
- In the same update, a brown-coloured house appeared to be abandoned. Players could enter it, but were not able to rent/customize it. As of the Tomb Update, it has been replaced with an empty brown house that cannot be entered.

- The Meteor (along with the UFO) used to reside in the Town; it was moved to the Military Base in the Military Update.
- The orange house (now removed), which was once used to start the Ready Player One Event, once hid a secret. If a player drove a vehicle at the right angle into the area, a "Noob" face will appear. Then, if a player attempted to drive the Camaro forward, it would be insanely fast. The first time the player drives the Camaro after jamming a vehicle into the house, the same "Noob" face would appear.
- In late September 2020, as a prelude to the Town revamp update, the Town was half-destroyed, surrounded by lava. It was later confirmed that the Town would get a revamp.
- The destroyed Town was one of the shortest-lived changes in Jailbreak, lasting less than a week.
- Only the Racetrack is the shortest-lived change, lasting for only a weekend.
- The developers had stated that the Town will have a role in a new robbery coming out in the Winter 2020 Update.
- This robbery turned out to be the Bank Truck heist, where many of the drop-off locations are located at various locations in the Town.
