Did this thing get a makeover?

This vehicle has been remodeled, as its previous model was outdated compared to newer vehicle models.
Remodeled on: August 7, 2021.

The Helicopter is one of the nine aerial vehicle in Jailbreak, the others including, but not limited to, the UFO, Black Hawk, Jet, Little Bird, and the Drone.

The Helicopter is also the first free aerial vehicle to be added to the game. The vehicle spawns at the Rising City Police Station, Military Base and the Prison Police Station. Prior to the June 2023 Update, the Helicopter spawn at Rising City Police Station was at the Police HQ.

Overview

The Helicopter, like most of the other aerial vehicles, can be disabled if shot enough times by a weapon, rendering it unable to fly for a few seconds. Black smoke emits from the Helicopter during when it is shot down.

Jumping out or being kicked out of the Helicopter will allow players to deploy a parachute if high enough, which can be removed by pressing Spacebar. However, if a player releases the parachute from a high enough height, they will ragdoll and take fall damage.

If a Prisoner or Criminal is piloting the Helicopter or flew it last, the rotors appear red. If a Police officer is piloting the Helicopter or flew it last, the rotors appear blue. When the Helicopter spawns, the rotors appear gray.

The Helicopter can drop explosives by pressing the B key for laptop/desktop devices or tapping the button for mobile. Bombs fall downwards and deal 70 damage if the target was hit directly. The bombs can travel further if the Helicopter is moving while they are dropped. Explosives can be bought for Cash Icon5,000 when the counter reaches zero. Unlike missiles, they cannot be aimed.

In the Blade Update, the Helicopter now features spotlights. They can be activated by pressing the L key on the keyboard. The spotlights are controlled manually and can slow down criminals caught in the light.

The Helicopter received a revamp in the update of Season 5: Let the Memes Begin, being given an interior.

Performance

The Helicopter is faster than the Camaro, but as the former can fly over terrain, it is much faster for cross-map travel.

Most aspects are above average compared to many other vehicles, including speed, acceleration, and maneuvering. The Helicopter can intercept cars such as La Matador and Brulee in a chase, and can even intercept an Eclaire.

Overall, the Helicopter is a great vehicle for both inexperienced and experienced Police and Criminals when playing Jailbreak, with its combination of good stats, practicality, and being free to use.

Reverse speed

5s
Comparable to the UFO and Escape Bot, topping out at 101 MPH. However, due to the Helicopter being an aerial vehicle, it has the ability to fly over any obstacle, making it faster than land vehicles in many cases. The reverse speed is the same as its regular speed. This has the advantage of flying in reverse with the same amount of time. The Helicopter is among the top of the tier of reverse speed, beating the La Matador and Eclaire, and comparable to the Torpedo.

Acceleration

The Helicopter launches decently fast, comparable to many low and medium-tier vehicles. It challenges many medium and some high-tier vehicles. The acceleration is decently fast, being able to accelerate to top speed in fewer than 10 seconds.
Maneuverability

Max altitude
Excellent
4s
Comparable to the Black Hawk, however, there are two differences between them: the Helicopter is smaller and handles slightly worse than the Black Hawk. Due to its smaller size, the Helicopter is slightly better at maneuvering through the Rising City. Its max altitude is the fourth highest of all flying vehicles, only behind the Jet, UFO, and the Black Hawk. Despite this, this still allows for enough height for all conventional uses.
Braking

3s
The braking is great, but neither the best nor the worst. It challenges many low and medium-tier vehicles, and some higher-tier vehicles. The Helicopter has the standard health of 100, with an above-average disabling duration of 10 seconds. Ironically, despite being the cheapest aerial vehicle, it is tied with the UFO as the most durable aerial vehicle.

Trivia

  • This aerial vehicle is supposedly based on the Bell 206.
    • In real life, this helicopter costs about one-million US dollars.
  • In the Rocket Fuel Update, when Rocket Fuel was added, the Helicopter could use Rocket Fuel and the bar showing the amount of fuel they have would go down, but nothing would happen. This has been patched.
  • Until July 5th, 2017, the Helicopter could not be customized.
  • When Jailbreak first came out, Helicopters were blue with white stripes and grey blades. In addition, players could not change the blade color, even if a prisoner or criminal drove one.
    • In a later update, criminal or prisoner helicopters were completely red with a black window, while police helicopters were the same color as before.
      • Another update made police helicopters have blue blades, and criminal's red. This was to identify who was driving or last driving the Helicopter. However, this feature does not apply to the Black Hawk or the Little Bird.
  • As of the Heli Damage Update, players can now shoot down the Helicopter.
  • When a Helicopter is shot down, it cannot be flown upwards until the smoke goes away. However, it can still move around, but very slowly.
    • If the Helicopter hits an uneven surface when it is shot down, there is a chance that it will bounce up high into the sky.
      • There was a glitch where if a player exits and enter the Helicopter as it is shot down, they can pilot it again immediately.
  • Helicopters always spawn with blue. The same trait is shared with the SUV, SWAT Van, Concept, the Camaro at the Police Stations, Cybertruck, Stallion, and other aerial vehicles.
  • It is possible to fly a Helicopter into a car Garage section, which was intentional. The customization menu will pop up and customizations will be applied.
    • However, the Garage door will close onto the tail of the Helicopter, causing it to glitch around and make the Helicopter very difficult to reverse out of the garage.
  • When police are in the front seat, players can pickpocket them if they can position themselves behind them.
  • Prior to the Supercar Update, the driver and passengers would not get a parachute from jumping out of the Helicopter.
  • As of the Alien Update, Helicopters were made to spawn more frequently.
  • In the Surprise/Bonus Update, the Helicopter was given a rope, like the one Black Hawk was given in the 1 Year Update.
  • In the Alien Update, the blades did not spin due to a bug. This was fixed in the Back To Earth Update.
  • In the 2023 Prison Update, a Helicopter spawn was re-added back on the helipad on top of the Rising City Police Station.

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • Helicopters have a random-based spawn time, respawning every 5-8 minutes.
    • The Helicopter is also the vehicle that takes the most time to respawn.
  • The Helicopter, UFO, Black Hawk, Patrol, Dirtbike, and Little Bird all have reverse speed that is as fast as top speed, though the top speed may vary.
    • The launch speed and acceleration are about the same, again, these may vary.
  • The Little Bird has a sped up version of the Helicopter's propeller sound.
  • The Helicopter is the first aerial vehicle to require the rope to rob the Cargo Ship, second being Black Hawk, third being Little Bird, fourth being UFO and the fifth being the Escape Bot.
  • The Helicopter is the second free vehicle (excluding the Model 3 on Public BETA Release and before needing Cash Icon16,000 to be purchased and the Camaro before the update of Season 6.), third being Jeep, and fourth being Cruiser.
    • Seasonal vehicles are also free, but it requires Level 10 in their respective seasons to obtain and drive it.
    • The Helicopter was once the fastest vehicle in Jailbreak, however, in the Supercar Update, the La Matador was added and took the title.
