The event starts in:

Live Events (also known as Live Updates) are a special type of update that occur when Jailbreak reaches significant milestones or celebrates an anniversary. Live Events involve updates happening in real time, which players can interact with, and usually have a storyline.

Overview

Despite time zones, Live Updates happen simultaneously throughout the world.

They typically feature countdowns, some kind of major change, and, most importantly, an update that is released live and in-game. As of now, there have been three live updates, with the latest one being the 5 Year Anniversary Live Update, which occurred at 10:00 AM, April 2, 2022 (PST).

2022 - 5 Year Anniversary Live Update

The 5 Year Anniversary Live Update celebrated the fifth anniversary of Jailbreak's publication to Roblox, and took place on April 2nd, 2022 at 10 AM PDT. The update doubled the size of the map, adding new locations such as Crater City and a new robbery, the Casino.

Buildup

The 5 Year Anniversary Live Update was first teased in the thumbnail of the Tow Trucks Update, in very faint text imprinted on the road in the bottom-left corner. The first trailer for the live event was released on March 22nd, 2022. The teaser revealed the date of the live event to be April 2nd, 2022. It consisted of dialogue between asimo3089 and badcc, which implied that a massive disaster was about to hit Jailbreak and confirmed that there would be no involvement from aliens. Meteors could be seen streaking through the sky in the background, foreshadowing the disaster that would strike. The final trailer was released on April 2nd, 2022, the day of the event, consisting mostly of recut footage from the first trailer. Jailbreak also changed its thumbnail several times to tease the live event.

Event

The event began with the developers, asimo3089 and badcc, announcing that meteors were falling upon the map. Suddenly, a third individual called Unknown (later confirmed to be the CEO) began laughing, much to the confusion of the developers. Following this, the first meteor fell into the desert, with the developers telling the players to jump on it. Doing so would break the meteor and set free a Limited Spoiler that players would gain. More meteors began falling in different places, destroying several landmarks like the top of the Rising City Bank and the Bounty Bridge. Finally, a massive meteor crashed into the mountains behind the Town, beginning to blur the players' screens with static. As the screen became covered with static, Unknown declared that he would "rule all crime", before the developers asked the players to rejoin the server. Upon re-entering the game, the developers explained that they had survived and explaining what was added in that update, and wishing a happy birthday to Jailbreak.

Dialogue

2020 - 3 Year Anniversary Live Update

The live update was to celebrate Jailbreak's three-year anniversary. Described by the developers as Jailbreak's "biggest update", it brought about a new city and an entirely new sector of the map, with bridges and a small cargo port.

Buildup

It was initially leaked in the thumbnail picture for the Gun Skins update of March 8th, 2020. At the bottom right corner of the image, underneath the Eclaire, "OUR NEXT UPDATE IS LIVE" is written in small letters. This was further proven by the Flintlock Update where the text was further elaborated on. Further information came from tweets by asimo3089 and the Badimo account, publicly confirming the upcoming live update. Eventually, a teaser trailer for the event was published.

In the teaser trailer, general information is revealed, and the theme of the event is hinted at. First off, players are shown running through the city. Afterward, a single cloaked player is shown walking to the Military Base, and then inside a mysterious never-before-seen room. The area looked like some sort of computer/control room, surrounded with server racks. The main focus of the place is a big red button with a crossed-out hand symbol (meaning "do not touch") next to it. These factors strongly indicated the possibility of a nuclear-themed event.

Event

When the countdown reached zero at 10:00 AM on April 4th, 2020 (in PST), the event began. First, dialogue boxes appeared at the top of the screen, showing an argument between the developers and the hooded figure taking place in the Military Base. Ignoring asimo3089 and badcc's pleas, the figure pressed the red button, initiating the launch of a large missile. After the identity of the hooded figure is revealed, the missile launches from the silo, flies high into the air, and begins its descent. It lands in the river and causes a massive explosion that engulfs the entire map.

Several natural disasters were triggered by the missile explosion, first of which is a large and violent thunderstorm. Not soon after, a news crew reported a large tornado headed towards the downtown area. This tornado promptly destroyed the entire Rising City, sucking up nearly all of the buildings and carrying them with it in a giant rotating spiral. After a few minutes, the spiral of buildings floated away into the sky, and the next disaster, a flood, began. The rain from the storm became too much, and the entire map slowly flooded with water. In addition to the map flooding, a cartoonish water graphic eventually began rising and covering the player's screen. When the screen was completely obscured, the player was kicked from the game. From there, they were prompted to rejoin so they could play the new update. Music played for the first few minutes in new servers, and fireworks exploded around the new and improved City area.

asimo3089 and badcc: !!!

News Reporter: "A Tornado warning is now in effect. Avoid Downtown until further notice."

asimo3089: No! Not again!

badcc: I've never seen anything like this in Jailbreak.

asimo3089: I knew the lightning was extra deadly lately! What have we done?

badcc: Oh no! There's too much rain! The map is flooding!

asimo3089: It's covering my screen, I can't see!

Unknown: ..... Please Wait ......

Unknown: The rain has stopped...

2018 - 2B Visits Live Update

This live update was made to celebrate two billion visits in Jailbreak. The Live Event happened on November 8th, 2018 at 5:57AM PCT (UTC-8).

Buildup

In the time leading up to the live event, there was a Visits Counter feature to count down to the exact two billionth visit. The Volcano Criminal Base also began emitting smoke. Upon the two billionth visit, the live event started.

Event

First off, the Volcano finally erupted with an orange particle effect. The eruption itself resembled a giant orange dust storm more than actual lava. Shortly after the eruption, buildings in the Rising City began to sink slowly into the ground. The process took a few minutes, and by the end, only select structures remained. Such structures include the Rising City Gun Shop, the Garage, the Jewelry Store, and the bottom floor of the Rising City Bank. The flat and barren area looked similar to how it did in the alpha versions of the game, as shown in videos and images by the developers from before Jailbreak's release. After a few more minutes, the final phase of the live event was set into motion. New buildings with more detailed and stylized textures rose from the ground, replacing the old City. Most notably, a brand-new Hospital was added, featuring an Ambulance vehicle. As the new City settled into place, fireworks exploded over the area, celebrating and thanking the community for two billion visits to Jailbreak.

Dialogue

Unknown: The volcano is erupting!

Unknown: THE CITY IS SINKING!!!

Unknown: Something is happening to the city!

Unknown: Live 2B Visits Update!

Unknown: Thank you for two billion visits!
