The Megalodon is a retired supercar that was first introduced in the 2017 Winter Update, alongside the Volt and the ATV. This car was the seventh most expensive vehicle in the game, and the third most expensive supercar, being costlier than the La Matador, Stallion, and JB8, yet still more affordable in relation to the Brulee and Torpedo, or, near the end of the Megalodon's obtainability, the Eclaire and Roadster, at a price of Cash Icon300,000.

Overview

The Megalodon was deemed underwhelming by the community due to its price-to-performance ratio. asimo3089 later confirmed that the Megalodon would soon get a buff shortly after its release. The buff was implemented in the Rocket Fuel update, giving the Megalodon better handling and top speed. However, the vehicle still lost in comparison to cheaper supercars, including the Stallion, JB8, and La Matador.

On June 25, 2020, Badimo announced on Twitter (now X) that the Megalodon and SUV will be retired in the next update. This announcement was made once again on June 30th. On July 12, 2020, Megalodon was retired along with the SUV and 6 vehicle textures. After retirement, attempting to buy this vehicle will receive the player notification that reads "Vehicle is retired".

In February 2021, the Airtail superseded the Megalodon, but it too was retired less than a year later, in January 2022.

In 2021, The Megalodon was given pinstripes to denote its retired status and was renamed to "Megalodon" from "McLaren" later on as part of a wave of vehicle renaming, possibly to avoid copyright. However, the pinstripes marking its retirement were later replaced by a plaque saying "CLASSIC". This has also happened with other retired vehicles except for the Airtail which says "RETIRED" instead.

Performance

Note: Information about the stats is based from tests using maximum upgrades.

Similar to some other vehicles, the Megalodon traded high top speed for incredible handling, which is among the best in the game, and excellent braking as well as a quick launch. Its drawbacks are top speed and acceleration, which although fast, are quite slow for its price.

However, as of the August 2022 Update, the Megalodon received a significant top speed, acceleration, and reverse buff, going from 165 to 198 MPH, and later slightly nerfed to 190 MPH. However, it got buffed to 200 MPH in October 2023, but nonetheless it doesn’t affect the vehicle lot. Everything considered, Megalodon is a great vehicle.

Players who try to buy the Megalodon will instead be notified with a message reading “Vehicle is retired.”, even if they have the Cash Icon300,000 required to buy the Megalodon since it is now retired. Currently, it has no replacement.

It has an average launch speed, being slightly faster than the Stallion. It can reach 53 MPH. It has improved acceleration since its buff, being able to reach its top speed in around 13 seconds. It is a strong performance compared to other super cars.

With a default turning radius of 1.4, the Megalodon handles through corners pretty well due to its small size and having lower top speed than all hypercars. Ground clearance is decent when using high suspension. Hill-climbing ability is excellent. It has one of the best off-roading of a supercar and comparable to the Torpedo, Airtail, and M12 Molten.

It almost comes to a full stop quickly taking about half a second thanks to the McLaren Ceramic brakes. It is comparable to the Airtail, Mighty and Snake, but loses to the Roadster. With a health of 100, the Megalodon places above it's McLaren brethren with ease, only losing to heavier vehicles such as the Cybertruck.

Trivia

  • This is the first Mclaren vehicle added to the game, second being the now-retired Airtail, third being the MCL36, fourth being the Snake and fifth being the Power-1.
  • In the 2017 Winter Update thumbnail, the Megalodon was actually called the "RoClaren", where the “Ro” was short for Roblox.
  • The Megalodon is the most heavily modified vehicle in the game in terms of performance, having its properties changed in many updates since its release, namely its top speed, acceleration, and handling.
  • Upon release, the Megalodon spawned on the curb near the Water Tower.
    • It was moved shortly after to the bridge heading up to what is now the Museum.
    • In the April 2020 Live/Oceans Update, a building was placed in this area.
  • The Cash Icon300,000 price tag of the car before its retirement was quite accurate to the real-life model. The McLaren 720S, which the Megalodon is based on, has a starting price of $295,500 USD when bought new, making the Megalodon the most accurately priced car in Jailbreak when compared to its real-life counterpart.
  • The Megalodon has a 6-speed transmission.
  • Around the time of the Megalodon's retirement and the new Power Plant was released, Badimo forgot to remove the spawn of the Megalodon in old servers, but it was still retired, meaning that even though it had a natural spawn point, it couldn't be bought.
    • This happened for the SUV as well, as both the SUV and Megalodon retired at the same time.
    • Their spawn points were eventually removed shortly after.
    • Something similar happened with the Agent, JB8, and Raptor after they were put off-sale.
  • When going at max speed, the Megalodon's engine went silent, similar to the Stallion, JB8, and Eclaire.
    • This was removed in a later update, where it’s sound now goes infinitely higher.
  • The Megalodon is the only vehicle that has been renamed more than twice, first from "RoClaren" to "McLaren", then "McLaren" to "Megalodon".
  • It has a Twin Turbo M840T V8 engine.

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • The Megalodon is the first car to have been buffed more than once.
  • The Megalodon is one of the many vehicles to have its name changed. Other cars include, but are not limited to, the Stallion, Eclaire, Posh, JB8, and Celestial.
  • The Megalodon is the first vehicle to have detailed daytime-running headlights, before the Beam Hybrid, La Matador, and the Ray 9.
  • After the return of the 5 Days of Vehicles update, the pinstripes of the Megalodon were removed and a "Classic" tag was added, as well with other retired vehicles.
  • The Megalodon has had more buffs than any other vehicle, with a total of 6 buffs.
