In Jailbreak, Police is one of three teams and one of the two teams that the player can select to play as, while the third, the Criminal team is achievable by breaking out of Prison as a Prisoner.

Overview

The main objective of a Police officer is to keep prisoners within the walls of the Prison while finding criminals before they commit a robbery at the stores and buildings found throughout Jailbreak and to put them back into the cells they escaped from by any means necessary such as using Handcuffs and Weapons. It is the opposite team of the prisoners and criminals.

Police can spawn at the Prison Police Station, Rising City Police Station and the Military Base, along with spawning inside a house if owned.

Police will automatically spawn with the folowing four items in their inventory:

The following items can be pickpocketed by Criminals and Prisoners from a police officer:

Police will receive a Daily Paycheck of Cash Icon1,200 at 5:00 AM in-game time every 24 hours in-game (approximately 10 minutes in real life).

Whenever a police officer enters a vehicle, a siren is attached to the vehicle, with the exception of the Dirtbike, ATV, Volt, Dune Buggy, Patrol, Ambulance, Drone and any Aerial/Water vehicles.

Police also get notifications whenever a robbery or theft occurs with the exception of the Museum (unless the alarm is triggered) and the Power Plant. They are also notified if someone pickpockets an item from them or if they pick up dropped cash from a prisoner.

Police can arrest prisoners if they have committed one of the following offences :

  1. Entered a prohibited area (Inside the the Prison police station, parking lot, sewers, Vents, outside the prison etc).
  2. Has punched the power box.
  3. Has punched air
  4. Damaged other players' health, such as attacking a police officer or punching another player.
  5. Pickpocketing a police officer.
  6. Has entered a vehicle of any sort.
  7. Has an item besides the taser, road spikes, or handcuffs.

NOTE: After some time, the guilty prisoner will turn innocent again if they avoid arrest for a period of time and if they are not holding an item other than the Taser or Handcuffs.

If the police attempt to shoot or arrest an innocent prisoner, they will be notified at the middle-top of their screen and lose Cash Icon25. In addition, they are warned to stop shooting/arresting innocent prisoners.

If a police officer kills an innocent prisoner or harms three prisoners via weapons (melee attacks not counting), or tries to arrest innocent prisoners three times, they will become a prisoner themselves as a punishment, although this is easily bypassable by simply switching teams.

In the Balance Update, every police officer earns 20% of their old paychecks before said update, with an additional 20% for those who own the SWAT Gamepass and bonus cash for arrests and not being pickpocketed at the end of the day.

Tips

  • Practice your aim. Try going to the Shooting Range in either gun shops, Police HQ, Aimblox or whatever aim trainer for effective practice. You can then shoot criminals to low health to make them weaker and move slower, so you can arrest them easier.
  • Only use the taser if you are confident it will hit. The taser cannot always stun criminals, but when it does, it immobilizes them for a few seconds. The taser has terrible accuracy, as well as a very slow reload time of eight seconds, so if you miss your shot, the criminal will most likely defeat you.
  • Weed out guilty prisoners. You can use the Baton, Sword, or the Taser on a prisoner to check. If you are able to damage or ragdoll a prisoner with these weapons, they are guilty and should be arrested.
  • Avoid chasing vehicles unless you have the advantage. This tip may seem counter-intuitive, however, the art of chasing vehicles is difficult. It is simply too difficult to jump out of your car and eject them on time in many cases. Chasing is only recommended if your vehicle is significantly faster than them and/or they are in a narrow alleyway, unless you have highly above average driving skills. Vehicles with fast acceleration are best for vehicle pursuits. If you have a quick vehicle, like the Roadster or the Proto-08, you can crash into cars, disabling them with PIT maneuvers.
  • Have a well-refined fight vs flight mentality. It is okay to run away from a bad or unfavorable situation. If you only expected one criminal, but there were actually six heavily armed ones, your best choice is to simply retreat unless you are confident you can defeat/arrest all of them. At the same time, if a solo criminal pulls out a pistol and is not sprinting, it is not necessary to run away because you are not exactly threatened.
  • Remember the minimap: Stealth can be a great tool when playing on the Police team, but it's important to remember that Criminals get a ping of the location of anyone near them on the Police team via the minimap.
  • Jetpack, then skydive: To reach criminals on higher buildings, use the jetpack to fly up high and behind, then skydive down. Arrest the criminal while on the parachute.
  • Ambushing is key: This can only surprise criminals who do not use the minimap. A criminal's most vulnerable state is when they are out of their vehicle and performing an action. For instance, a criminal using an ATM would be a chance to catch them, because they are focused on something else and cannot escape easily. Confronting criminals up front, however, might be a bad idea in certain scenarios, especially if they are in a group. This is also called Camping if waiting in a specific area.
  • Secure the Passenger Train: A police officer can earn up to Cash Icon4.000 for collecting the items that are within the Passenger Train, giving a great boost in money. However, they need to be careful about criminals, and arrest them if possible.
  • Drop Cargo Ship containers into the water: A police officer can earn up to Cash Icon3,000 for dropping the Cargo Ship containers into the water. Use a Helicopter, Little Bird, Black Hawk or a UFO and attach it to a container with the rope. Then, drop the containers into the water. During the process, police officers are required to avoid missiles where it has the ability to shoot down helicopters and damage the player.
  • Use the Jetpack: Some criminals will attempt to get away using the Jetpack. This can be countered by with a Jetpack of your own, chasing the criminal through the air, and tasing or arresting them upon reaching the ground. Occasionally, it may even be possible to catch them while you are both still parachuting in the air.
  • Team up with other police officers: They say "teamwork makes the dream work", so teaming up with fellow police officers, most ideally experienced police or your friends, will greatly heighten your chance of victory against criminals, especially those who travel in groups. It is worth noting, however, that only one police officer can receive any given criminal's bounty. Keep this in mind when choosing your group size.
  • Use the Minimap: Just like the Criminals, cops also have a Minimap, which is just as useful. Use it to help you find where a Criminal/Prisoner went if they just got out of your sight but is not far enough to be out of your minimap's range.
  • Use Hologram Maps: In the Secret Agent Base, Criminal Lair, or Military Base (all three locations locked behind Level 4 or VIP Gamepass), there are hologram maps that display the entire map. Within these holograms are player markers updated in real-time, along with what team they are on, and, in the case of criminals, their bounty. This can greatly help you predict a criminals movements, or find criminals that are attempting to hide (especially if they are AFK). It is worth noting, however, that it can be difficult to put this information to good use, as you have to leave the map behind to actually search for the criminal. As such, it can be beneficial to have a team member feeding you the information live, rather than reading the map yourself.
  • Use PIT maneuvers: PIT maneuvers can prove to be very useful during car chases. Try to crash your vehicle onto another player's to make their wheels temporarily pop. Sometimes, it can be worthwhile to PIT maneuver a criminal more than once before attempting to get out of your vehicle and arrest them, if their vehicle continues moving due to inertia.
  • Use Helicopter lights: Using lights on vehicles such as the Black Hawk, Helicopter, Little Bird and the Drone, police officers can slow down criminals on foot and allow other police officers to catch up to them. If you own the Black Hawk or Jet, you can use Missiles to further slow criminals down allowing for easy parachute arrests.
  • Use the Sniper Rifle: The Sniper Rifle can disable most fast vehicles in only two shots. This makes it a great tool for quickly catching up to criminals. It can also hit the criminal inside, making them slower to escape if they exit their vehicle. This can, however, be to your detriment if you kill them by accident, as you will have to find them again if you want to claim their bounty. As such, try to aim away from where the player may be sitting if you've already hit them. Since vehicles are a much larger target than players, it is sometimes also better to avoid scoping in, and to use hip fire instead.
  • Use Road Spikes: Road Spikes are often considered to be a very quick and efficient way of Vehicle Disabling, as if a person is attempting to run away from you in a chase and is going too fast to do a PIT maneuver, road spikes are very convenient as not only do they easily pop the tires of an unsuspecting criminal going too fast for you to catch them, but also since every police officer automatically spawns with one in the fourth slot of the hotbar, making it less of a hassle to go back if you ever get killed. Be sure to note that you can only place one road spike at a time, and you never know when a criminal is going the way the road spike is to be placed, as you have to get out of your car in order to place the road spikes, so be sure to place the road spike in a busy area full of criminals driving.

Trivia

  • There can only be a limited number of officers in one server depending on how many players are in the server, a feature to make criminals and officers even. If a player attempts to become a police officer while the team is unbalanced, a green string of text will appear under the 'Play' button saying "Team is full...".
  • There is an easter egg referring to the stereotype that police officers "camp". It consists of three Police NPCs on a rock near the Desert Hideout in Cactus Valley near the waterfall near the Airport, literally camping; with one police officer roasting a marshmallow, and another scaring the 3rd. Behind the three of them is a small tent. Previous locations of this Easter Egg included being in the waterfall next to a Gun Ship during the Ready Player One Event mission, as well as in between Train Tunnel 1 and the Train Station.
  • Criminal cars are slightly faster than Police cars at the same vehicle and level engine, meaning you must use a faster vehicle than the criminal’s to make chasing easier. Police are also slightly slower than Criminals, meaning criminals can outrun any police officer they see.
    • The old hot bar tips sometimes stated police cars can slightly outrun criminal cars.
      • This tip is most likely referring to the Camaro and the Police Camaro compared to each other. However, the Winter 2017 Update removed the Police Camaro, making the tip false, since criminal cars are now slightly faster.
  • In the Rocket Fuel Update, police were given a higher Paycheck from Cash Icon500 (Cash Icon600 if VIP) to Cash Icon2000 (Cash Icon2400 if VIP) and the range of handcuffs was reduced. Though later on in the 1 Year Update, the Paycheck amounts were reduced back to the original ones.
    • In the Cybertruck Update, police's paychecks were doubled to Cash Icon1,000 (Cash Icon1,200 if VIP).
      • However, as of the September 2020 Update, police's paychecks now increase by 20% (Cash Icon1,200, Cash Icon1,400 if VIP), and an additional 20% increase for SWAT Gamepass players.
  • The Police badge can be found in the catalog here.
  • The Police badge cannot be removed but can be covered by using certain torsos. It is also hard to see, as it is small and hard to see from a distance.
  • A police officer cannot equip BOSS Attire in both Criminal Bases even if they have the BOSS Gamepass because they are not criminals.
    • This also works with prisoners/criminals not being able to equip SWAT attire.
  • Donuts heals police more than criminals, this was confirmed in a tweet by asimo3089.
  • As of the Cybertruck Update, the Road Spikes now spawns in a police officer's inventory.
  • Before the Prison Update, Police officers were able to operate the watchtower lights to target criminals by pushing the button on it.
    • This was removed in the aforementioned update but returned in the 2023 Prison Revamp except for now spotlights automatically target criminals close to them.
  • Police previously had a substantial advantage over criminals, in the Guns/Skins Update, this was flipped over.
  • Sirens can only be equipped if the police officer sits in the driver's seat.
  • When the game was first released, police could arrest innocent prisoners. This led to trolling, and was patched quickly.
  • When the game was first released, players thought if the police touch the Criminal Base they would automatically become a criminal. This was proven to be false and was likely to prevent abuse.
  • The Police team picture is based on a wallpaper from the Jailbreak page on Roblox.
