Not to be confused with Crater City. Rising City, also simply referred to as the City, is one of the main locations of Jailbreak. It is known for its large size, easy access, and high concentration of robberies and other major locations. It is situated next to the Dunes.
Overview
Previously referred to in-game as the City, it was given the name Rising City on April 2, 2022 as part of the 5 Year Anniversary Live Update. The name was taken from a suggestion given by Br0kenSyniLai. [1]
Rising City is home to three robberies: the Rising City Bank, Bank Truck, and the Jewelry Store. Three other robberies, the Gas Station, Museum, and the Power Plant, are also in close proximity. In addition, the Cargo Train and Passenger Train robberies also pass through here via Train Tunnel 2 on their journey.
Additionally, Rising City is where the Hospital, Rising City Criminal Base, Rising City Garage, Control Tower, and the Rising City Penthouse are located.
Formerly, the Rising City also included three apartments which were removed in the Dream Homes Update. As of the Crew Battles Update, some of the buildings in the Rising City change color accordingly to the color of the #1 Crew.
Rising City also contains many vehicle spawns, including the Ambulance, Camaro, Concept, Cybertruck, Eclaire, Helicopter, Interrogator, La Matador, Little Bird, Model 3 and Roadster. The Brulee and Megalodon were also former occupants of the area.
As all the roads in front of the Prison lead to Rising City, criminals and police can often be seen passing through here after escaping the Prison. When night approaches, the buildings will light up one after another starting at approximately 8 PM in-game time, and turning off one after another at approximately 4 AM in-game time.
Major Changes
Rising City has changed in appearance many times throughout the history of Jailbreak.
2B Visits Live Update
During the 2B Visits Live Update, Rising City was destroyed by the volcano the Volcano Criminal Base is located in.
When the volcano erupted, lava spewed out of the volcano and headed towards Rising City. Rising City experienced an earthquake as the buildings sank into the ground - the quake stopped when all buildings had sunk. A new city then reformed in a matter of minutes with more shaking, which introduced the Hospital, new apartments as well as new building designs, including one for the unused floors of the Rising City Bank.
Robberies were not destroyed during this event, although the Rising City Bank's "extra floors" sunk through the bank. When they rose back up, it had its height dramatically increased. Anybody in apartments during the live event was kicked out and not refunded. Some servers, however, did not experience this change and the buildings did not rise, thus creating a flat land.
It was later revealed that Rising City sank due to negative feedback about the lack of detail in the city prior. Even after the live update, the minimap did not update to the newer version of Rising City until the 2018 Winter Update.
3 Year Live Update
During the 3 Year Anniversary Live Update of April 4th, 2020, the Jailbreak map was hit by a developer nuke released from the Military Base. Due to the nuke's after-effects, Rising City was destroyed by a tornado and was flooded soon after. After the map was flooded, water began to fill the screen of players witnessing the event with the text "Please wait". All Jailbreak servers later were disconnected to make way for the update.
When the update came out, Rising City was revamped, featuring new and more creative buildings, textures, and models. The Bank, Jewelry Store, the former penthouse apartment building, and the Control Tower all received new models, along with all the other less notable buildings. However, some servers did not have the live event occur - instead, players in these servers only saw the old Jailbreak map.

Trivia
- It is the second main location in Jailbreak, after the Prison, when Jailbreak was first released.
- During the 2 Billion Visits Update when Rising City sank, the bottom floor of the Rising City Bank, Rising City Police Station, Rising City Gun Shop and Jewelry Store did not sink. These buildings were not destroyed completely from the 3 Year Live Update either.
- For the first few days of the Battle Royale gamemode release, the minimap used the version that was supposed to be for the update of August 14th, 2018.
- However, in the actual update of August 14th, 2018, it used the minimap of the update from March 3rd, 2018. This was not changed until the update of September 9th, 2018.
- Prior to the Oceans/Ships Live Update, Rising City was based on and resembled Phoenix, Arizona which is surrounded by desert. After the map was revamped, the surrounding landscape no longer resembles Phoenix, Arizona, but now looks more like a coastal city.
- It could still be based on Phoenix, but the map may look similar to the surroundings of Theodore Roosevelt Lake in Arizona.
