The Rocket Launcher is a powerful, high-damaging explosive weapon in Jailbreak. The weapon was added in the Weapons/Items Update of August 14th, 2018, and it can be found at the Rising City Gun Shop, Crater City Gun Shop, Mountainside Town Gun Shop, Prison Gun Shop and the Military Base. It can be obtained for Cash Icon40,000,

If the player has purchased the Rocket Launcher in a previous season, they can use it without requiring Level 3 in later seasons. The level 3 requirement was removed in the Season 17 update.

On July 3rd, 2023, Badimo announced on Twitter that Rocket Launchers will be upgraded with guided rockets to lock onto aerial vehicles. [1]

Overview

The Rocket Launcher can deal a maximum of 78 health damage at close range and a moderate amount of damage at mid or long-range. Its main downside is that players must purchase ammunition before being able to use the weapon, which costs Cash Icon1,000 per piece of ammo; only ten rockets can be equipped at once. This is unlike most other weapons, in which ammunition is free and unlimited.

Many players use the Rocket Launcher because of how its explosion can penetrate through walls and forcefield bubbles created by the Forcefield Launcher. The weapon's high damage and large radius for explosive damage makes it well-rounded, but very costly if used often.

The Rocket Launcher was revamped in the Apocalypse Part 2 Update, featuring a new model with new sounds.

Strategy

The Rocket Launcher is considered one of the best weapons for close-range purposes, as its rockets deal up to 78 damage, more than three-quarters of a player's health. The best partnering close-range weapon for this is the Shotgun, as one shot of the Rocket Launcher and the Shotgun can kill a player very quickly.

In mid-range combat, the best situation to use the Rocket Launcher for would be against large groups of enemy players, as it has an AOE (Area of Effect) trait dealing splash damage. This will damage everyone in the group significantly, allowing players to finish them off with another weapon.

Players often create a "firewall" in many locations, such as heists and robberies, to either prevent police from entering places at full health, or to make finding criminals in the Bank's vault harder. However, the fire is not very effective for other purposes, as they only last for ten real-life minutes.

Players who either like to "troll" or do not want criminals to escape the Prison may fire many rockets into areas that usually are used to escape.

In one-versus-one situations, players are recommended to fire directly at the opposing player, as the rockets would deal extremely high damage very close to the player or directly hitting their body. Aiming anywhere else other than directly at the player will do less damage, depending on how far away the rocket exploded from the player.

The Rocket Launcher is an excellent weapon for fighting the CEO, as it can instantly kill or at least heavily damage all of the Bandits that spawn from the door.

Players should consider the money they lose to the money they get before using the Rocket Launcher: for example, robbing the Bank with no extra duffel bag space will give the player Cash Icon2,250 from most vaults; if the player shoots two rockets, they will lose Cash Icon2,000, leaving their profit at a clumsy Cash Icon250, while shooting three rockets will put it into a loss. Due to this, it is advised to be thrifty about how often the player spends their rockets.

Guided Rockets

As of the July 2023 Update, Rocket Launchers now are capable to take down aerial vehicles with guided rockets.

It is useful to shoot down aerial vehicles which you could not reach with a regular gun. When you aim a red hexagon will appear on your screen to show the target locking onto an aerial vehicle. When it is green shoot it and it will hit. It is recommended to use guided missiles on vehicles like the Jet since it has a higher top speed and different controlling system so it is almost impossible to shoot it down with regular weapons when it is flying.

Trivia

  • When first released, the Rocket Launcher would do 43 damage at any range.
    • This was later changed to do damage according to range, with the maximum being 78 damage.
  • Unlike the Grenade, the Rocket Launcher does not have friendly fire, meaning that players cannot deal damage to players on their own team to deal damage to them. The resulting fires can still damage them.
  • The Rocket Launcher is based on the WWII Bazooka.
  • The design of the Rocket Launcher is likely based on the design from "Just Cause".
    • The design can also be based on the AT-4, with a cartoonish look, as well as being blue.
  • Badimo stated on Twitter that they had to create their own custom explosion to avoid lag.
  • The rocket leaves a Rocket Fuel trail behind it, just like the Missiles.
    • However, the rockets use the old rocket fuel particle effect, not the one used on land vehicles currently.
  • As of the Fire Update, rockets fired from the Rocket Launcher trigger fires.
  • This, Grenades, drop-bombs, missiles, C4, and Smoke Grenades are the only weapons whose ammunition require to be bought separately.
  • If players use all of their free Rockets in Battle Royale, they will lose all rockets they had when playing normally.
  • If players try to shoot the Rocket Launcher without ammunition, a trigger clicking sound will play.
  • Despite its remodel shown in the teaser for the Eclaire Update, it was never added in the game.
  • The Rocket Launcher, Grenades, Missiles, and the Plasma Pistol are the only weapons that can penetrate the Forcefield Launcher's bubble.
  • The Rocket Launcher is currently broken as most of the rockets shoot upwards rather than at their intended destination. This has been the case since the July 2023 update when the Rocket Launcher was upgraded. (Only those with 40 FPS or below are affected by this.)
