The Shogun is a seasonal vehicle in Jailbreak. Featured as the grand prize of Season 15: Drift to Japan, it was redeemable for free at the Season Hypezone after reaching Level 10 through Contracts. It was modeled by EyesOfObl1vion.[1]

Overview

The Shogun has proven itself as one of the most anticipated seasonal grand prizes to date due to the constantly requested Japanese theme of Season 15, the popularity of Mazda cars among the players of Jailbreak, as well as the refreshing features of the vehicle: an exposed engine at the front, exhaust pipes releasing fire particles on both sides and the front (both shared with the Rattler), a one-off custom texture for the car (previously only seen in promotional vehicles) and carbon fiber texturing (shared with the Javelin and the Parisian). The perfect timing of the addition of the Drift customization feature only benefited the popularity of the car.

Overall, the beast that is the Shogun is a top-notch Japanese sports car that combines the best details of previously released vehicles, which is the reason it received an overwhelmingly positive reception from the player base. Designed with passion and effort by its talented creator, it was well worth the Season 15 grind.

The vehicle is a heavily modified Mazda RX-7. It has been described by the creator as a "menacing, quad-rotor, untamed drifting beast"[1].

Performance

The Shogun rivals many race cars that are already in the game. While it does not have outstanding performance, it is still one of the best among all season vehicles. It also has an overdrive gear, a feature only shared with a few vehicles. Its acceleration increases rapidly once it reaches 140 MPH.

Reverse Speed

The Shogun's top speed is remarkable, being able to reach an upwards of 216 MPH, comparable to the Roadster. It slightly beats the Firetruck, and Volt, but is slower than the Megalodon, Arachnid and the Banana Car. The reverse speed is great, topping off at 72 MPH. Comparable to the Airtail.

Acceleration
Great
3.5s
It has a launch speed of 72 MPH in 1 second, which is slightly faster than the Javelin's 70 MPH. Its acceleration ability is decent, reaching its top speed in 15-20 seconds, similar to the NASCAR. A notable feature is the vehicle's Overdrive gear, which, after reaching 140 MPH, accelerates the Shogun to 200 MPH within 6 seconds. Its engine note will also become higher-pitched. After around 200 MPH, however, its acceleration will start to decrease consistently.
Handling

Off-roading
Great
3.5s
With a turning radius of 1.68, the Shogun's handling is quite good for a sports car. Its turning is responsive and the vehicle is quite grippy. Comparable to the Snake and Proto-08. Due to its low ground clearance, it cannot travel off-road at high speeds. However, it is able to climb steep terrain without much problem. Slightly better than the Parisian.
Braking

Durability
Great
3.5s
It comes to a full halt within 2 seconds. Comparable to the Torpedo. The Shogun has 100 HP and a disable duration of 7.5 seconds, making it slightly more resilient than most supercars. It is comparable to the Beam Hybrid and Bloxy.

Trivia

  • The Shogun, unlike most other cars, has its driver's seat on the right side.
    • This is because Japanese drivers drive on the left-hand side of the road. The steering wheel is located on the side closest to the middle of a two-way road, no matter which side traffic is on.
      • The same applies to the XRK.
  • Various parts of the Shogun use a carbon-fiber material.
  • The Shogun has a custom engine sound.
  • The Shogun has a custom texture.
    • Despite that, when previewing it in the garage, the texture is seen unequipped.
  • The Shogun has its own spoiler of the same name that is on sale separately in the garage for 25,000.
    • It is automatically equipped on the vehicle whenever a player spawns it in, regardless of whether or not it is owned. This is the first vehicle with this trait, followed by the Carbonara.
      • Despite that, when previewing it in the garage, the spoiler is seen replaced with the Classic spoiler, just like all vehicles with customizable spoilers.
  • Just like the Rattler, the Shogun's engine rattles in place when a driver enters.
  • Just like the Rattler, the Shogun emits flame particles whenever the player accelerates. However, the flames appear to look different.
  • When the car is decelerating or the drift key is pressed, the Shogun leaves three thin red trails from its rear lights.
    • This trait is shared with the Aperture. However, the Aperture's trail is much shorter.
  • The Shogun has a logo on its side window that says "08 motors", possibly as a reference to the Proto-08, its predecessor. The "08 motors" logo is also seen on the Power-1, Longhorn, Successor and Carbonara.

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • This is the first ever vehicle created by EyesOfObl1vion, followed by the Longhorn.
  • This is the third Japanese vehicle in the game, with the others being the Deja, Jackrabbit and XRK.
  • This is the second Mazda in the game, with the first being the Jackrabbit.
    • Coincidentally, both are modified vehicles.
  • This is the third car with an exposed engine, with the first two being the Stallion and Rattler.
  • This is the third vehicle and seasonal vehicle with flame particles, following the Rattler and Bandit, and preceding the Longhorn.
  • This is the third vehicle with a carbon fiber texture, with the others being the Javelin, Parisian, Power-1 and Carbonara.
  • The Shogun is one of the few vehicles with their own custom textures[2], along with the NASCAR Event vehicles, the MCL36, the Semi, the SWAT Van, and the Striker.
    • Unlike the other vehicles, the Shogun doesn't appear with its texture on the garage preview, featuring a red body color instead.
  • The Shogun is one of the few vehicles with its own engine sound effect, with the others including (but not limited to) the Parisian and Carbonara.
  • This is one of the few vehicles in the game with its own garage piece, with the others including (but not limited to) the Volt 4X4 with the Air Wing, the Shell Mark-5 with the Mark-5 Spoiler, the Javelin with the Subcarbon Rims and the Parisian with the EXP-1 Rims.
  • This is the fifth vehicle with an overdrive gear, with the others being the Arachnid, Deja, Delorean and Desert Crawler.
  • Although according to its creator the Shogun has a non-rotary 2JZ engine, the Shogun has a rotary engine sound.
  • This is the sixth vehicle with an engine start-up sound, following the NASCAR Free, NASCAR, MCL36, Parisian, NASCAR 75 and followed by the Successor, Carbonara and XRK.
