Why can I not buy this?

The content featured on this page is no longer obtainable in Jailbreak. It is now exclusive content that can only be obtained through trading, and it is unable to be purchased by non-owners.
Became unobtainable on: November 3rd, 2019.

Not to be confused with the similarly-named limited-time vehicle, the Torero, or the Koenigsegg released in 2022, the Javelin.

The Torpedo is a seasonal vehicle in Jailbreak. Added in the 2018 Winter Update, it has the fourth-highest top speed in-game, beaten only by Scorpion, Brulee and the Jet Ski.

The Torpedo cost 750,000 and required either Level 30 in OG Season 1 or Level 5 in OG Season 2, both on the Criminal team, for players to obtain it. However, it could be also obtained from a loophole in OG Season 3. The loophole was fixed on November 3rd, 2019 after Season 4 began, making it fully unobtainable along with the other seasonal vehicles at the time.

Overview

The Torpedo is a hybrid between a Koenigsegg One:1 and a Koenigsegg Agera R, both hypercars built by Koenigsegg. Badimo initially introduced the Torpedo as "to be fast, great for escaping the police!"[1]

The Torpedo was the vehicle prize of OG Season 1 and OG Season 2 along with the Arachnid. It was also obtainable, however unintentionally, during OG Season 3, due to a loophole, which would only be fixed when Season 4 began.

During OG Season 1 and 2, the Torpedo spawned in the Criminal Lair alongside a Camaro. After the release of Season 3, its spawn was replaced by the JB8.

This vehicle is quite similar to the Arachnid: both cost 750,000 and belong to their respective team, the Criminal team and the Police team, and both being locked behind a level requirement.

The Torpedo was widely believed to have the highest top speed in-game, which led to many players begging Badimo to put the vehicle on-sale again. However, those who were asking quickly turned over to the Brulee instead once it was confirmed faster.

Obtainability

OG Season 1 (Debut)

The Torpedo made its debut in Season 1 alongside the Arachnid. It was available for purchase only when players reached Level 30 on the Criminal team. Once unlocked, it would cost 750,000, a price that would place it among the most expensive vehicles in-game, especially for its time.

OG Season 2 (Level Change)

The Torpedo was also obtainable in Season 2 in its level rewards. Unlike Season 1, it could be unlocked at Level 5 rather than Level 30. The price tag of 750,000 stayed the same, but the lowered level requirement made the Torpedo much easier to get. The same went for the Arachnid, but on the Police team.

OG Season 3 (Spawning Loophole)

When Season 3 began, the spawn for the Torpedo was replaced by the JB8. Since its spawn at the Criminal Lair was removed, it did not naturally appear in the Jailbreak map, making it impossible to buy, which was intentional.

However, if an owner spawned the Torpedo with a Garage or the Mobile Garage Gamepass, non-owners could buy it. This loophole was widely known within a short time and abused by players that did not legitimately obtain the vehicle beforehand, damaging the vehicle's exclusivity.

OG Season 4 (Unobtainable)

The Torpedo became officially unobtainable as of Season 4 when the spawning loophole was patched. Upon attempted purchase, non-owners will receive nothing but a notification that reads: "Vehicle is from another season." The loophole was also patched for seasonal vehicles of the past and the future.

Performance

The Torpedo has some of the best stats in Jailbreak. It has the fourth-best top speed, fast acceleration rate, powerful launch, great off-roading, and the seventh-best reverse speed.

The Torpedo never reaches its true top speed due to its long acceleration time and the shortness and curves of Jailbreak's roads. However, when the vehicle gets closer to its top speed, it manages to stay ahead of almost all high-end vehicles.

Driving abilities are well-rounded, with good handling and braking, and excellent off-roading for a hypercar. The Torpedo is also very reliable, with no tendency to fling or hit railroads.

Formerly, the Torpedo was different, performing similarly to its police counterpart, the Arachnid. However, being the criminal counterpart of the two cars, the Torpedo would need to be faster than the Arachnid, thus the car was buffed to have a higher top speed.

The Torpedo mainly rivals the Javelin, with both having near identical stats, yet the one with the best stats varies by category.

All things considered, the Torpedo is an excellent vehicle, with all of its performance statistics being great.

The Torpedo has fantastic top speed of 393 MPH, being the 3rd fastest land vehicle and 4th fastest vehicle overall, behind the Brulee, Jet Ski and Scorpion. Eighth-fastest reverse speed in Jailbreak at 108 MPH, but is beaten by the tied Dune Buggy and Dirtbike, Javelin, Brulee, Black Hawk, Patrol, Drone and Falcon S.

At a speed of 64 MPH in one second, the Torpedo's launch performance is good. Its acceleration is easily beat by the Brulee, but it falls behind other hypercars such as the Molten M12 and Eclaire. Although the Torpedo takes over 30 seconds to reach its true top speed, it reaches desirable speeds in a short period of time. It easily dusts the Brulee but falls behind other hypercars like the Eclaire & Javelin, until it reaches higher speeds when it starts to get ahead.

It is easy to control at low speeds, being quite maneuverable. However, it becomes harder to turn at higher speeds and is very slippery in the rain. Its ground clearance is extremely good compared to other hypercars due to its suspension. Overall, it is quite stable and does not often flip or roll over, which makes it very smooth while off-roading. However, it does struggle to climb some slopes compared to other hypercars. Its closest competitor is the M12 Molten.

It comes to a full stop in roughly 1.5 seconds, even when at high speed. It is slightly better than the Brulee and La Matador, but worse than other supercars or hypercars. Still, it is very good for a fast vehicle. After an unknown patch, The Torpedo's HP has been nerfed to 75 with a disable duration of 7.5 seconds, far below the Arachnid but equal to the Javelin.

Trivia

  • The performance of the car and front end suggests it is based on the Koenigsegg Agera R, however, the wing on the back suggests it is based on the Koenigsegg One:1.
  • The Torpedo's name has no correlation to Koenigsegg. In real life, torpedoes are very fast water missiles, which could be the reason behind the name.
  • This was one of the most frequently requested vehicles, being suggested since the 2017 Winter Update.
  • It used to have a very low grip, causing it to slide on roads and difficult to control. This was changed in a miscellaneous update after many complaints from players.[2]
  • In OG Season 2, if players owned the Torpedo, they would have still needed Level 5 on the Criminal team to drive it. The reasons were that the Torpedo only spawned in the Criminal Lair, which required Level 5 during OG Season 2, and the feature of spawning vehicles in Garages did not exist at the time.
    • The same applied with the Arachnid, as players needed level 5 on the Police team in OG Season 2 to drive it.
  • asimo3089 said he would be afraid to add another Koenigsegg model to Jailbreak as many players would compare it to the Torpedo.[3]
    • However, the Javelin got added at November of 2022, a vehicle based from Koenigsegg Jesko, which has debunked the claim ever since.
  • The Torpedo is the fastest seasonal vehicle to come from the original system and the fastest seasonal vehicle overall.

Customization

  • The Torpedo cannot equip spoilers. Instead, it has a built in spoiler which is part of the model, similar to the Volt 4X4.
    • The spoiler changes color with the body color and is made of reflective metal material. This makes the spoiler's color to appear darker or lighter than the main body's color.
    • On the fifth day of the 5 Days Of Vehicles Update 2021, the wing of the Torpedo was accidentally removed while adding a "CLASSIC" vehicle text to it. This change was quickly reverted a day later.
  • When equipping the Fire texture on the Torpedo, it appears as the Snowstorm texture but glitched.
    • Coincidentally, the Snowstorm Texture was also a prize of Season 1: New Beginnings.
      • In the April 30th Discord Q&A, asimo3089 mentioned that it was about to be patched, however, he continued by saying that it was a "cool Easter egg" for the Torpedo. The glitch ended up getting patched a few months later.

Badimo's claims regarding the Torpedo's availability

  • Badimo once mentioned that they would "bring back seasonal items in the future",[4] which led to many players believing that the Torpedo, along with past seasonal vehicles, would become obtainable again. Badimo later denied planning to do so.[5]
    • It was eventually revealed that Badimo was planning to bring back seasons, starting with Season 1: New Beginnings.
  • After the Mighty was confirmed for a return, a person asked Badimo to give the Torpedo a return in the future, which Badimo refused to as it would damage the Torpedo's value and break "a promise with those original owners."[6][7]

Miscellaneous Trivia

  • It is the first of two Koenigsegg vehicles in Jailbreak, the second being the Javelin.
  • This is the fastest seasonal vehicle out of all cars from both the old seasons and new seasons.
  • This and the Arachnid are the very first seasonal vehicles in Jailbreak.
  • The Torpedo has a 6-speed transmission.
  • The Torpedo's name was suggested by one of Jailbreak's testers and a Bureaucrat of the wiki, RealResistance.
