Private Servers (formerly and commonly known as VIP Servers), are private game-unique servers that are individually owned.

Overview

The feature involves a monthly subscription based service to a private server for a specific game; the user who is paying for the private server is able to configure its settings for the duration of the subscription. Players renew their subscriptions for a set amount of Robux each month, depending what game they are playing.

In Jailbreak, renting a private server costs GoldenRobux200 per month and can be cancelled at any time (without a Robux refund), which still allows the server to remain active until the renewal date.

Usage

Private Servers can be helpful for acquiring cash and testing out new vehicles, weapons and features, although it can be rather costly for most people with little to no Robux. It is recommended to farm as much cash as possible before the server expires and spend quality time on it. They're also good for speed testing and running statistics on items/vehicles.

Private Server owners can invite their friends or other players to the server (if they wish) to help them farm cash or perform other tasks. The owner can kick whoever they want using the in-game Kick button on the lower-right hand corner and selecting the desired player‘s name before clicking on it.

It took the Jewelry Store and Rising City Bank 13 in-game hours (with 1 player) to open, unlike in public servers, which took 8 in-game hours to open. Donut Shop and Gas Station took 10 real-time minutes to replenish their cash each time they get robbed, which is the same as public servers. The Museum and Cargo Train used to open up in 7 in-game hours - heists used to take the same time to open up as public servers if enough players are in a Private Server. The bounty received from killing a Police officer, robbing the Bank, Jewelry Store, both small stores and both trains used to be cut down by 90%. Finally, players also cannot donate cash to/bribe others and themselves.

As of the October 2023 Update, private servers share the same robbery groups and bounties as public servers.

Private Servers provide many benefits. Due to the lack of players, users will experience fewer interruptions while performing tasks than public servers. Players playing in Private Servers will most likely experience less lag if playing with a bad connection or older device if there is a low amount of players in the server.

Private Servers can be sent via a link to share the server with others without them being allowed to join the server manually. In the official Jailbreak Discord Server, players are able to post their Private Server link in an exclusive channel if they wish to open their server to the public. Players who want to play in a Private Server are recommended to check the mentioned channel. Private Servers can also be accessed if the player is friends with the owner.

Admin Commands

This feature was added in the 2021 Fall Update, which allows Private Server owners to do a variety of things, from changing the gravity to zapping a player with lightning.

To open the menu, the player must either press the ` key (backtick) on their keyboard or head over to the settings by clicking the settings cog button, and head to the "Console" section, which opens up the console. Private Server owners can also give other players admin privileges. Below is a list of the available admin commands a player can use in Jailbreak. Any italicized text are values that are optional, whereas underlined text are values that are required.

New commands were added in Apocalypse Update: Part 2. These include AnnouncePlayerDeath, AnnounceArrests, FriendlyFire, and BanGun.

Notes:

  • The majority of the admin commands can only be accessed by the game developers which is unlisted on this page and is restricted for normal players. Otherwise, a piece of text will appear on the console reading: "You don't have permission to run this command" will appear on the console.
  • Commands can only be used in a Private Server by the owner, unless given the operator (admin) rank.

Players that own a Private Server or someone gives them admin privileges can access the basic commands:

Kicking Players

Added in the 2017 Winter Update, the kick feature is a feature of Jailbreak for Private Server owners that allows the owner to kick anyone, including themselves, out of the server.

To kick a player, click the "Kick" button on the bottom right corner and a white player log should appear on the screen. Click the player players want to kick and the player will be kicked, although their username may stay on the player's list for a moment of time before dissipating.

The kick feature can be very useful if owners do not want to be interrupted while on their Private Server. The kick feature also prevents players from rejoining the same server they were kicked from unless it is refreshed.

The kick feature was accidentally removed during the Fall 2018 Update. It was brought back in a patch update. The feature was accidentally removed again on the first day of the Return of 5 Days 5 Vehicles Update and was brought back the next day.

As of the Fall 2021 Update, the kick feature has since been revamped, removing the old button in the bottom right-hand corner with instead having to go to the console and type in the "kick" command as well as the username of the desired person to be kicked.

Gamemodes

In the Passenger Train Update, players were able to go to the Control Tower and use a token (costs GoldenRobux10) on a gamemode, which would later turn into a voting process by all players in the server. If the Private Server owner wished to play a gamemode, they could choose to do so without having to go through the voting process in normal servers.

There were only three gamemodes: Battle Royale, Alien Invasion, and Jet Ski Racing. They were later removed in the first day of the Return of Five Days 5 Vehicles Update, due to contributing factors such as slow and laggy gamemodes, as well as poor usage in servers.

In the Return of Royale update, the Battle Royale gamemode returned to Private servers. Battle Royale can be started by either using the gamemode command, or holding the red button in front of the Prison.

Trivia

  • In the Black Friday Sale 2017, a feature was added called "Cinematic Camera", exclusive for Private Server owners, which let players move their camera around the map freely by pressing left shift + P. It was originally removed in the 2017 Winter Update, due to it being used for no-clipping and making the game much easier, and was re-added in the 4th day of the Return of 5 Days 5 Vehicles Update.
  • The kick feature can be used to kick the Private Server's owner as well.
    • It is unknown why it is possible to do so. However, if they want to rejoin their Private Server, it is required to restart their server, letting everybody they may have kicked in the past back in.
  • The Feedback Update allowed the Bank and Jewelry Store to open upon starting a Private Server or normal server.
    • However, this was later reverted in a miscellaneous update.
  • If a certain number of players join a Private Server, the opening times of stores are slowly reduced to be the same as public server times.
  • In the 7th Annual Bloxy Awards held by Roblox, Jailbreak earned a Bloxy Award for most Private Servers sold.
  • After the 3 years live update, Badimo said players with Private Servers could replay the live event for 2 weeks.
    • However, Badimo removed it in the Cargo Ship Robbery Update, which was 2 months after the update instead of the supposed 2 weeks. This was most likely an oversight.
  • On July 15th, 2020, Roblox renamed VIP Servers to Private Servers.
  • The disabling of donation on small private servers is, along with the cash donation limit, a mechanism to prevent people from selling Jailbreak cash for real-life money.
  • Despite Roblox adding free private servers on June 12, 2020, asimo3089 once said that the monthly price of Private Servers will not change. If it were to change, it would cancel all private server subscriptions.
  • In the Return of Royale update, the Battle Royale gamemode returned to Private servers.
